HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 6 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, returns home for a non-conference game against No. 25 Swarthmore (PA) College on Thursday night, December 14, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 7-1 overall, remaining 2-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), following a 78-65 non-conference road win at William Peace University on Dec. 12 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The nationally-ranked Garnet are 7-2 overall, remaining 4-0 in the Centennial Conference after a 77-57 non-conference home loss to Widener (PA) University on Dec. 9—WU was receiving votes last week; however, is ranked No. 20 this week after the win at SC. H-SC defeated WU 72-63 in the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic on November 17 in Ohio. It's free admission for all regular season home contests and the game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch, as well, on the Tiger Sports Network, pregame airing at 6:30 p.m.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fifth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 114-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 59-36 overall at the College, including 33-22 in ODAC games. Caleb was both the 2022-23 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year, and the ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

Scouting No. 6 Hampden-Sydney
H-SC is extremely balanced offensively with two players averaging in double-figure scoring among its five starters that are each scoring at least 5.9 points per game, while nine Tigers are playing at least 10-plus minutes per game. H-SC has been led by senior forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) with his 13.9 points (13 3FGs) and 7.8 rebounds, and fifth-year guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) with his 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Joining them in the lineup have been senior guard and team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (9.9 points, 5.3 assists, 14 3FGs), senior guard Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) (8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 11 3FGs), as well as senior guard/forward and team captain Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) (5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds). Senior guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (5.9 points, 10 3FGs), fifth-year forward and team captain Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) (4.8 points, 10 3FGs), junior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (4.8 points, 9 3FGs) and fifth-year guard Chase Turner (Virginia Beach) (4.6 points) have led the bench scoring. The Tigers are shooting 47% (220-473) from the field, including 41% (76-185) on three-point field goals (9.5 per game), and 73% (82-113) at the free throw line. H-SC has averaged 74.8 points, and allowed only 60.9 points, for a +13.9 scoring margin.

Scouting No. 25 Swarthmore
The Garnet are coached by 11th-year head coach Landry Kosmalski. SC has been led by senior guard Vinny DeAngelo (15.3 points, 20 3FGs) and senior forward Michael Caprise (14.9 points, 8.4 rebounds). The Garnet shoot 42% (228-543) from the field, including 33% (70-210) on three-pointers (7.8 per game), and 75% (101-134) at the line; scoring 69.7 points, and yielding 65.6 points, for a +4.1 scoring margin. Coach Landry has led SC to three Centennial Conference Championships and six-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2023 Final Four. The Garnet were National Runner-Up in 2019, advanced to the Elite Eight in 2018 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2020.

John Carroll (OH) (7-0) was ranked No. 1 with 582 points and 13 first-place votes, followed by Calvin (MI) (7-0, 581) at No. 2, fellow ODAC member Guilford (9-0, 570) at No. 3, Oswego State (NY) (7-0, 544) at No. 4 and Tufts (MA) (10-0, 493) at No. 5. H-SC is scheduled to play at John Carroll next Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.

Career Watch
Ryan Clements ranks 24th in career scoring with 1,196 career points in 95 career games (12.6). Russell Turner '92 is the all-time leader with 2,272 career points. Clements is ninth in career steals with 159 (1.7). Ralph Baker '89 is the all-time leader with 258 career steals. Davidson Hubbard is tied for 10th in career blocks with 46 career blocks in 66 career games (0.7). Mike Thompson '04 is the all-time leader with 136 career blocks.

2023-24 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Miles Harris, along with seniors Adam Brazil and Josiah Hardy. Harris and Brazil are each serving in the leadership role for their second season, while Hardy is a first-year captain. Miles is the son of Randy Harris and Corey Bacs and is majoring in economics and business. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English. Josiah is the son of Vernal Hardy and Felicia Miller and is majoring in economics and business.
 
Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 14th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at VCU and his eighth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his sixth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 265-170 at UCI ... Odom was 141-85 overall, including 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 88-72 at Longwood.
