HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 6 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road for the third-straight game at William Peace (NC) University in non-conference basketball action on Tuesday night, December 12, at 7 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 6-1 overall, 2-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), following an important 61-52 road win at (RV) Randolph-Macon on Dec. 8. The Pacers are 4-4 overall, after an 82-67 home win past ODAC member the University of Lynchburg on Dec. 10, while yet to play a game in the USA South Athletic Conference. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fifth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 114-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 58-36 overall at the College, including 33-22 in ODAC games. Caleb was both the 2022-23 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year, and the ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC is extremely balanced offensively with three players averaging in double-figure scoring among its five starters that are each scoring at least 6.7 points per game, while nine Tigers are playing at least 10-plus minutes per game. H-SC has been led by senior forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) with his 13.3 points (12 3FGs) and 8.1 rebounds, fifth-year guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) with his 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists, along with senior guard and team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) with his 10.3 points (14 3FGs) and 5.4 assists. Joining them in the lineup have been senior guard Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) (8.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 10 3FGs), as well as senior guard/forward and team captain Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) (6.7 points). Senior guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (5.6 points), junior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (4.8 points), fifth-year forward and team captain Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) (4.7 points) and fifth-year guard Chase Turner (Virginia Beach) (4.4 points) have led the bench scoring. The Tigers are shooting 46% (190-415) from the field, including 41% (70-171) on three-point field goals (10.0 per game), and 71% (70-99) at the free throw line. H-SC has averaged 74.3 points, and allowed only 60.3 points, for a +14.0 scoring margin.

The Pacers are coached by 12th-year head coach Claude Shields, who has built the program into existence since his hiring in 2011 ... he recruited and coached H-SC assistant coach Bryson Gibson (2012-15), who later served as assistant coach under Shields (2016-18). WPU has been led by senior forward Timothy Pettiford (14.6 points), senior guard/forward Beau Bryant (12.7 points, 6.6 rebounds) and junior guard Michael Dulin (10.7 points, 21 3FGs). The Pacers shoot 44% (221-508) from the field, including 34% (83-245) on three-pointers, and 66% (106-161) at the line; scoring 70.1 points, and yielding 76.7 points, for a -6.6 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and WPU are playing for just the seventh time in a series that is tied at 3-3. The Pacers have won two-straight and three of the last four games between the two schools, including 96-71 in the most recent contest on November 18, 2018 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. The Tigers' last win in the series was on Dec. 14, 2016 at home (86-74), and the last H-SC win in Raleigh was on Nov. 24, 2015 (89-84)—the Garnet & Grey are 1-2 at WPU.

John Carroll (OH) (7-0) was ranked No. 1 with 582 points and 13 first-place votes, followed by Calvin (MI) (7-0, 581) at No. 2, fellow ODAC member Guilford (9-0, 570) at No. 3, Oswego State (NY) (7-0, 544) at No. 4 and Tufts (MA) (10-0, 493) at No. 5. H-SC is scheduled to play at John Carroll on Dec. 19.

Career Watch
Ryan Clements ranks 26th in career scoring with 1,179 career points in 94 career games (12.5). Russell Turner '92 is the all-time leader with 2,272 career points. Clements is ninth in career steals with 154 (1.6). Ralph Baker '89 is the all-time leader with 258 career steals. Davidson Hubbard is tied for 10th in career blocks with 46 career blocks in 64 career games (0.6). Mike Thompson '04 is the all-time leader with 136 career blocks.

2023-24 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Miles Harris, along with seniors Adam Brazil and Josiah Hardy. Harris and Brazil are each serving in the leadership role for their second season, while Hardy is a first-year captain. Miles is the son of Randy Harris and Corey Bacs and is majoring in economics and business. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English. Josiah is the son of Vernal Hardy and Felicia Miller and is majoring in economics and business.
 
Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 14th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at VCU and his eighth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his sixth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 265-170 at UCI ... Odom was 141-85 overall, including 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 88-72 at Longwood.
