Culpeper, VA The end-of-season Cardinal Collegiate Rugby Conference (CCRC) featured four teams ranked in the top twenty nationally and the quality of play demonstrated the strength of the conference clubs. Play opened with a victory by Division II #20 University of Virginia over VCU, while at the same time on another pitch at the Culpeper Sports Complex small-college #8 Christendom defeated William and Mary. In the next round of matches, small-college #7 VMI defeated the University of Richmond and small-college #20 Hampden-Sydney defeated Radford. These victories set a final four composed of four nationally-ranked squads vying for the CCRC conference title.
In the H-SC - Radford quarterfinal match, the Highlanders struck first with a try and kick to lead 7-0. This was answered by a
Jonathan Person try and
Bryson Smith penalty try to give Tigers a 12-7 halftime lead. At the start of the second half a
Teddy Hendrickson try and
Graeme Ebert kick extended the lead for H-SC to 19-7. A penalty try by
Jonathan Person continued to build the lead to 26-7 and the Tigers continued to roll with a
Bruton Peacock try and
Graeme Ebert kick to put the lead out of reach at 33-7. Radford was able to score one more try and kick, followed by a try and kick by H-SC's
Carson Mann to set the final score at 41-14.Â
In the semifinal matchup the Tigers faced perennial national title contender VMI. The Keydets started quickly and the Tigers faced their biggest deficit of the season, down 34-0 at halftime. The Tigers struck back in the second half, opening with a
Graeme Ebert try and kick to start the comeback and make the score 34-7. A
Jackson Cofer score, followed by a
John Gregoire score and
Graeme Ebert kick brought the Tigers back into contention at 34-19. The comeback would continue with an Aidan Dore try. The
Graeme Ebert kick brought the Tigers within eight. While the Tigers shutout the Keydets in the second half, time ran out on the comeback and the final score was set at 34-26 in favor of VMI.Â
On Sunday, VMI defeated Christendom 38-21 to claim the CCRC crown for the fall '15s season. Originally H-SC was scheduled to play the University of Virginia for third place. Virginia opted not to participate, officially placing H-SC third in the CCRC. In its place and in an effort to find more rugby, VCU and H-SC elected to play a Motley. The Tigers opened the match with
Graeme Ebert and
Jackson Cofer scores.
Graeme Ebert converted both kicks to post a 14-0 lead for H-SC's ruggers. VCU answered with a try and a kick by H-SC's
Aiden Dore brought the score to 14-7. Consecutive
Jordan Payton scores and a
Graeme Ebert conversion rebuilt the Tigers' lead to 26-7. The Rams would fight back with a try and another kick by H-SC's
Aiden Dore to close the gap to 26-14 before freshman
Austin Apesa's try and a
Graeme Ebert kick extended the lead to 33-14. Once again the Rams climbed back into the match, scoring two tries and kicks to narrow the HSC RFC's lead to 33-28. A score by sophomore
Elias Garrison gave the Tigers a cushion at 38-28 and freshman
Xavier Charles provide additional space with a try. The
Graeme Ebert kick put the Tigers up 45-28. A

Graeme Ebert kick put the game out of reach at 52-28. Playing for VCU as part of the  Motley, H-SC's
Alex Barth scored to give the Rams one more try. The converted kick set the final score for the Rams and one more
