Hampden-Sydney, VA – The Hampden-Sydney College soccer team fell to the nationally ranked number 17 Christopher Newport University, 4-0, Wednesday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
The Captains opened the scoring just after the 11 minute mark as senior Ryan Machado-Jones hit a free kick from outside the box that found a leaping senior Kyle Stenzel for the headed opener. Just under three minutes later Christopher Newport struck again as the centering pass from senior Chris Schram found junior Elton Quintanilla at the back post for the goal, and gave the Captains a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Christopher Newport scored five minutes into the second half as senior Brendan Todd finished off the pass from freshman Barry Jones. Senior Alex Risko scored on a rebounded after sophomore goalie
Connor Kitson (Wake Forest, NC) made a save on the shot attempt from junior Jonathon Leiding.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, October 1, when they travel to Lexington, VA for a matchup with fellow ODAC member Washington and Lee. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 pm at Alston Parker Watt Field.
