FERRUM, Va. – On Tuesday, the Hampden-Sydney lacrosse team traveled to the western part of the State for an early week game against fellow ODAC member Ferrum College. The Tigers were coming off a tough home loss and looking to get back into the win column. Behind a strong defense, their offense came alive to score a season high 23 goals, as they cruised to their seventh win of the season, 23-3.
Hampden-Sydney's offense jumped out to an early 5-0 first quarter lead, behind goals from Sophomore
Ford Burke (Richmond, VA), Freshman
Zach Hanzlik (Vienna, VA), Sophomore
Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) and Senior

Bobby Clagett (Brandywine, MD) pushed the advantage to five goals, 6-1. That was followed by a score from Junior
Talmadge Hope (Richmond, VA), as time was about to expire, allowing the Tigers to close out the first fifteen minutes leading by a score of 7-1.
Ferrum struck first, as the second quarter began, but Senior
Logan Mitchell (Mt. Pleasant, SC) skipped one into the net after a successful Hampden-Sydney clear. The Panthers scored again to trim the lead back to five goals but the Tigers, once again, had an answer taking advantage of a fast break opportunity, as Mitchell fired one past the goalkeeper from ten yards out. Senior
Andre Shanley (Leesburg, VA) and Mitchell would finish out the half with two more goals to go into the break leading, 11-3.
Sophomore
Michael Leone (Vienna VA) began the third quarter with a quick goal and three minutes later, Freshman
Jack Stepanian (Richmond, VA) took a pass from Freshman
Griff Ray (Salem, VA), to increase the Tigers' advantage to double digits, 13-3. Hampden-Sydney continued to find the goal, as Sophomore

Jack Shipman (Mt. Pleasant, SC), Junior
Max Koontz (Winston-Salem, NC), who had two straight, and Sophomore
Matt Gemmell (Winston-Salem, NC) put together an eight goal quarter giving the Tigers the commanding lead, 19-3.
Helfgott continued the offensive output, scoring his second goal of the game, midway through the fourth quarter. Koontz then got his second on the day, after a quick pass from Ray to increase the lead to 21-3. On the next possession Koontz set up Stepanian for the Tigers' 22
nd goal of the game and Sheer would round out the scoring, as Hampden-Sydney cruised to the win, 23-3.
The Tigers outshot the Panthers 49-22, while scooping up 45 ground balls to Ferrum's 19. In addition, they won 21 face-offs and were a perfect 19-19 on clear opportunities.
