Owen Tappy (Charlotte, NC) took the pitching win in relief for the Tigers (4-2) against the Nittany Lions (2-2) at the Armstrong Invitational being hosted by Methodist University.
H-SC scored 16 runs on 12 hits with one error … scoring three runs in the sixth inning, seven runs in the seventh, two runs in the eighth and four runs in the ninth. PSUA scored six runs on eight hits with three errors … scoring two runs in the first inning, one run in the fourth, one run in the seventh, one run in the eighth and one run in the ninth.
Highlights included the first collegiate home run by Currin (2-4, 3 RBIs) with his two-run blast to left field in the sixth that tied the game at 3-3, scoring sophomore
Lucas Burnette (Hurt) (1-2, RBI), who had provided an RBI double. Currin added a run-scoring single in the seventh, as did freshman
Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) (1-4, RBI), while freshman
Jahiem Green (Stafford) (1-3, RBI) reached on an infield single that drove in a run during the at-bat, as well. Oates contributed a two-run double down the left field line in the eighth, while junior
Tymothy Hart (Powhatan) (1-1, 2 RBIs) added a two-run single in the ninth, and senior captain
Trey Karnes (Mechanicsville) (0-0, RBI) had a ninth-inning sacrifice fly RBI. Freshman
Christian Chambers (Midlothian) (2-3) also had two hits in the contest for H-SC.
Tappy (1-1) tossed the final 5.1 innings, scattering six hits and three runs, two earned, with nine strikeouts—tying his career-high—and one walk. Sophomore
Lance Tate (Stanardsville) started and pitched the first 3.2 innings for the Tigers, allowing two hits and three runs, two earned, with two strikeouts and four walks.
