Quinn Hardimon (Alexandria) had a storming final 100 meters to take a come from behind victory in the 800 Meter Freestyle, while sophomore
Cody Carnes (Hartfield) and senior
Andrew Rehak (Radford) had less than two tenths of a second separate their one-two finish in the 200 Meter IM. These finishes were not enough, as the Hampden-Sydney College swim team fell to Randolph-Macon College, 107-79, Friday night at Leggett Pool.
The Tigers grabbed a second place in the first event of the evening, as the team of Hardimon, Carnes, sophomore
Cole Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), and fellow classmate
Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA) finished the 400 Meter Medley Relay in 4:25.46.
H-SC took home third, fourth, and fifth in the 200 Meter freestyle. Sophomore
Matt Brooks (Springfield) grabbed third with a time of 2:15.03, freshman
Jackson Piazza (Birmingham, AL) finished fourth with a 2:44.71, and fifth was sophomore
Carson Mann (Matthews, NC) with a time of 2:59.17.
Junior
Patrick Duffy (Charlotte, NC) had the top time for the Tigers in the 50 Meter Freestyle, finishing second with a 27.36 seconds. Behind him was Piazza in third finishing in 33.02 seconds and fourth was Mann with a time of 33.94 seconds.
The Tigers took back to back second, third, and fourth place finishes in the 100 Meter Freestyle and the 100 Meter Backstroke. Duffy led all Tiger finishers in the freestyle with a 1:01.83. He was followed up by sophomore
Kevin Busch (Greensboro, NC) in third and Mann in fourth with times of 1:11.66 and 1:20.19 respectively. Rehak took home second in the Backstroke edging third place man Hardimon by four seconds. Busch came home in fourth with his time of 1:45.43.
Brooks grabbed a second place finish for the Tigers in the 400 Meter freestyle with his time of 4:59.29. He was followed up in third place by Hyde who finished in 5:12.59.
The final individual event saw H-SC take another two-three-four finish. Carnes grabbed the top Tiger time in the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a 1:19.05. Three seconds behind in third place was Renfrow with his time of 1:22.29. Finishing with a time of 1:28.27, was Piazza which was good for the fourth-place finish.
The final event of the meet was the 200 Meter Freestyle that saw the team of Hyde, Duffy, Brooks, and Rehak take home second, finishing just over a second behind the winning team from Randolph-Macon.
The Tigers have a lengthy break, but will get back in the pool for the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4. Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin a 12 p.m. and a second session is scheduled to be run at 6 p.m. on Saturday, before reconvening at 10 a.m. Sunday for the final time. The meet is going to be held in Richmond, VA.
