LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Freshman midfielder
Zakky Johnston (Meherrin) scored the decisive goal to lead the eighth-seeded Hampden-Sydney College to a,1-0, victory past top-seeded in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Soccer Tournament, the University of Lynchburg, Saturday night at Shellenberger Field in Lynchburg..
Hampden-Sydney scored the one and only goal in the 14th minute as following a free kick by the Tigers, the ball slipped through the hands of goalkeeper, landing in front of Johnston, who was laying on the ground and he tapped it in.
Following the goal, the Tigers were okay with absorbing pressure and forcing the Hornets to beat them. As a result, Lynchburg outshot H-SC 23 to 5, and had 11 corner kicks to the Tigers' three. Even with the advantage, almost all of the chances allowed were difficult shots to convert. Sophomore
Wills Huddleston (Baldwin, MD) came up big when called upon, making seven saves and preserving a shutout.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 2, when they travel to fourth-seeded Roanoke College for an ODAC Semifinal. The clash with the Maroons will take place at Donald J. Kerr Stadium in Salem at 7 p.m.
