Hampden-Sydney Welcomes Virginia Wesleyan On Thursday At 7 p.m.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College welcomes Virginia Wesleyan University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Thursday night, January 20, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The host Tigers are 9-3 overall, 4-1 in the ODAC, while the visiting Marlins are 7-7 overall, 3-2 in the ODAC. The game will be broadcast and can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch as well on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com, pregame airing at 6:30 p.m.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the third-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon College (AL) from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 112-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford College (NC) and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 25-20 overall at the College, including 13-12 in ODAC games.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
The Tigers won their most recent contest on the road at Bridgewater, 70-50, on Jan. 15. H-SC has four players averaging in double figures among eight scoring at least 5.2 points per game. Junior guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) leads the balanced-scoring team with his 14.0 points, adding 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists, followed by fifth-year forward and team captain Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) (12.9 points, 5.5 rebounds), sophomore guard Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (10.8 points, 3.2 assists, 28 3FGs) and sophomore forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) (10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds). The Tigers are shooting 46% (353-767) from the field, including 36% (104-287) on three-point field goals, and 72% (168-234) at the free throw line. H-SC has won two-straight games and is averaging 81.5 points, and allowing 69.1 points, for a +12.4 scoring margin.

Scouting Virginia Wesleyan
The Marlins are coached by 22nd-year head coach Dave Macedo, and last played on Jan. 18 at home against ODAC member Randolph, winning 60-49. VWU has been led by fifth-year forward Tim Fisher (18.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists) and fifth-year guard/forward Corey Pelham (10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 29 3FGs). The Marlins have won three-straight games and four of their last five, and shoot 45% (371-825) from the field, including 35% (125-358) on three-pointers, and 70% (131-186) at the line; scoring 71.5 points, yielding 67.6 points.

Series History
H-SC and VWU are playing for the 87th time  since first meeting on Jan. 8, 1973 at Hampden-Sydney. The Tigers lead the overall series at 47-39. The Marlins, however, lead the ODAC series at 35-33 since joining the conference prior to the 1989-90 season. VWU has won 14 of the last 15 meetings since 2011-12, including 69-65 in the most recent meeting on February 12, 2020 at H-SC.

  • 2/9, 5 p.m. at Guilford (NC) changed to 2/8, 7 p.m.
