STAUNTON, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College soccer team played through 110 minutes at Mary Baldwin University on Saturday afternoon in Staunton, coming away with a 1-1 double-overtime draw. The Tigers move to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Fighting Squirrels are now 1-2-1.
The first half was a defensive battle as neither team was able to find the back of the net through the first 45 minutes of play.

Jacob Siler/Charlotte, NC subbed in during the 69
th minute of play prior to an H-SC corner kick. Sophomore
John Alexander/Wake Forest, NC lobbed the ball to the front right of the box where Siler found and headed it in on the left side past the goalie to give the Tigers the 1-0 advantage at 69:02.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, Mary Baldwin scored its lone goal of the contest off a corner kick at 80:29 to tie the game up at one goal apiece. Neither team was able to score in the final minutes, sending the game to overtime. After a pair of 10-minute extra periods with no goals, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ian Fitzgerald/Newport News made three saves while playing all 110:00 minutes.
H-SC will return home for its next game against Roanoke College on Wednesday, September 15, in a match designated as non-conference. The contest with the Maroons is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
