Hampden-Sydney Welcomes Eastern Mennonite On Saturday At 2 p.m.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College welcomes Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Saturday afternoon, December 4, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The host Tigers are 5-0 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, and enjoying their first 5-0 start to a season since 2014-15 (8-0), while the visiting Royals are 3-4 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the third-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon College (AL) from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 112-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford College (NC) and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 21-17 overall at the College, including 10-11 in ODAC games.

ODAC Series History
H-SC and EMU are playing for the 84th time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season. The Tigers lead the conference series at 59-24, including a 68-58 road win in Harrisonburg on January 25, 2020. The Royals, however, won the last time the two teams played in Fleet Gym by a score of 70-56 on February 9, 2019.

Scouting the Tigers
H-SC has opened the season with five-straight victories, including a come-from-behind 86-83 conference road win at Ferrum on Dec. 1. The Tigers have four players averaging in double figures among eight scoring at least 7.0 points per game through five contests. Fifth-year forward and team captain Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) (8-12 3FGs) has led the team with his 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds off the bench, while junior guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) adds 13.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists, sophomore guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (11 3FGs) contributes 12.5 points, and sophomore guard Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (11 3FGs) averages 11.6 points. H-SC is shooting an impressive 51% (156-309) from the field, including 43% (52-120) on three-point field goals, and 74% (76-103) at the free throw line. The high-scoring Tigers are averaging 88.0 points, and allowing 68.2 points.

Scouting the Royals
EMU is coached by fourth-year head coach Melvin Felix. The Royals are playing their third game in four days, following an 86-72 home win past ODAC member Shenandoah on Dec. 1 and a 96-54 road setback at NCAA Division I James Madison on Dec. 2 in its most recent contest. EMU has been led by Tim Jones (13.9 points, 7.0 assists) and Mark Burkholder (8.1 points, 6.3 rebounds). The Royals shoot 42% (181-434) from the field, including 30% (44-146) on three-pointers, and 68% (72-106) at the line; averaging 68.3 points, and allowing 74.9 points.

H-SC Mask Policy
The College's current mask policy is that all individuals – both vaccinated and unvaccinated – are required to wear masks inside campus buildings when others are nearby (within 6 feet). Unvaccinated individuals are also required to maintain social distancing at all times. Campus visitors must abide by these precautions as well.
