Hampden-Sydney Hosting H-SC Classic On Saturday & Sunday

Tigers welcome Ferrum, Mary Washington and Maryville (TN) for games at 2 & 4 p.m. daily

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College welcomes Ferrum College, the University of Mary Washington and Maryville College (TN) to its H-SC Classic college basketball event on Saturday and Sunday, December 18-19, in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The Tigers (6-1) will play Mary Washington (9-2) in the first game on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., followed by a game against nationally-ranked No. 23 Maryville (7-1) in the first game on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. Fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Ferrum (4-4) will play Maryville in the second game on Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by a game against Mary Washington in the second game on Sunday at 4 p.m. It's free admission to all four games this weekend, as well as for all regular season home games at the College. The H-SC contests will be available to watch via the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com, pregame airing at 1:45 p.m. each day. The two late games each day will also be streamed live.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the third-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon College (AL) from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 112-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford College (NC) and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 22-18 overall at the College, including 11-11 in ODAC games.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
The Tigers are playing in their third season under the direction of Coach Kimbrough. H-SC opened the season with six-straight victories, before dropping a 79-74 non-conference decision at home to No. 12 Christopher Newport on Dec. 14. The Tigers have four players averaging in double figures among eight scoring at least 5.6 points per game. Fifth-year forward and team captain Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) (11 3FGs) leads the balanced-scoring team with his 13.5 points off the bench, adding 6.0 rebounds, followed by sophomore guard Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (13.1 points, 19 3FGs), junior guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) (12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists) and sophomore guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (11.3 points, 17 3FGs). H-SC is shooting 48% (214-446) from the field, including 42% (73-172) on three-point field goals, and 72% (92-127) at the free throw line. The high-scoring Tigers are averaging 84.7 points, and allowing 67.4 points, for a +17.3 scoring margin.

Scouting Mary Washington
The Eagles, who are receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, are coached by eighth-year head coach Marcus Kahn. UMW is playing its seventh and eighth ODAC opponents this weekend, currently 5-1 against the ODAC this season, following an 80-57 home win past Eastern Mennonite on Dec. 11. The Eagles have been led by senior guards Anias Saunders (14.5 points, 26 3FGs), Da'Shawn Cook (13.2 points, 26 3FGs), Riley Welch (12.0 points, 25 3FGs) and Ra'Shawn Cook (10.5 points, 15 3FGs). UMW shoots 45% from the field, including 35% on three-pointers, and 61% at the line; scoring 72.7 points, yielding 64.7 points.

UMW Series History
H-SC and UMW are playing for the 23rd time since first meeting on January 11, 1981, and for the first time since November 22, 2015. The Tigers won that most recent game by a score of 71-66 in Fredericksburg, and lead the series at 16-6. H-SC has won 13 consecutive games against the Eagles, who last defeated the Tigers on February 20, 1987 (105-74, Fredericksburg).

Scouting No. 23 Maryville
The Scots are coached by third-year head coach Raul Placeres. MC is playing for the first time in 10 days this weekend, last playing at home on Dec. 8, an 85-68 win past Johnson (TN). The nationally-ranked Scots have been led by junior guard Myles Rasnick (15.8 points, 10 3FGs), junior forward Felix Uadiael (12.8 points, 7.8 rebounds) and junior guard Chase Ridenour (11.3 points, 16 3FGs). MC shoots 44% from the field, including 39% on three-pointers, and 66% at the line; scoring 80.3 points, yielding 67.9 points.

MC Series History
H-SC and MC last played on March 4, 2000 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Scots won that game by a score of 76-75 in Fleet Gym. Complete series history is not available.

H-SC Mask Policy
The College's current mask policy is that all individuals – both vaccinated and unvaccinated – are required to wear masks inside campus buildings when others are nearby (within 6 feet). Unvaccinated individuals are also required to maintain social distancing at all times. Campus visitors must abide by these precautions as well.

Up Next
The Tigers will break for the Christmas Holiday before returning to action on Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. in a non-conference road game at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton. H-SC will play at home again on Friday afternoon, Dec. 31 (New Year's Eve), at 1 p.m. against non-conference opponent William Peace (NC) at Fleet Gym.
