Hampden-Sydney Picks Up 118-47 Win Over Randolph At Home

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Today marked 10 years ago to the day that the Hampden-Sydney College Swim team competed in the program's first ever event. The Tigers celebrated their anniversary by winning eight of 11 events en route to a 118-47 home win over visiting Randolph College in Leggett Pool on Friday evening. H-SC improves to 2-0 to start the season while the WildCats fall to 2-2.

"These guys continue to make me proud," said 11-year head coach Betsy Leonard, "We have some things to work on and goals in mind for the rest of the season, but we definitely saw some great swims today. Today marks 10 years since the first varsity swim meet for H-SC swimming and I feel so blessed to have been here to see it all."

Senior Woody Parsons (Virginia Beach) and freshman Quinn Hardimon (Alexandria) each won two individual events and were both part of a winning relay team to lead H-SC on the day. They teamed up with senior Jason Covaney (Williamsburg) and junior Andrew Rehak (Radford) to win the 400 Meter Medley Relay to start dual in a time of 4:27.15.

Freshman Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA) won the 200 Meter Freestyle in 2:22.15. Junior Patrick Garifo (New London, NC) took third in the event with his time of 2:36.31. Hardimon won his first individual event of the night in the 50 Meter Freestyle in :26.42, with sophomore Patrick Duffy (Charlotte, NC) claiming second in a time of :26.82.

In the 200 Meter IM, Rehak touched the boards second in a time of 2:31.98, while senior Dane Warner (Norfolk) was third in a time of 2:40.72. The 100 Meter Butterfly saw the Tigers finish one, two, three as Parsons, Hyde, and Covaney finished in times of 1:02.39, 1:08.83, and 1:09.80, respectively. Hardimon followed that event in the 100 Meter Free with a winning time of :58.48. Freshman Matt Brooks (Springfield) took second place in the event in 1:01.02.

Rehak won the 100 Meter Backstroke in 1:07.83, with Hyde taking home third in 1:12.01. Parsons claimed his second individual win of the evening in the 400 Meter Free with a time of 4:45.41, with Garifo taking second in 5:50.34.
The team of Duffy, Brooks, senior Ben Hiter (Mineral) and Covaney won the 200 Meter Free Relay to close out the night in 1:52.23.

H-SC returns to the pool on Friday, November 12, when it travels to Randolph-Macon College. The dual with the Yellow Jackets gets underway at 6 p.m. in Ashland.
