HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College soccer team dropped a 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest against visiting Randolph College on Wednesday night on Hellmuth-Gibson Field. The Tigers move to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the ODAC while the WildCats are now 9-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the ODAC.
H-SC opened the scoring with a two-assist goal by junior
Boyce Purdie (Clinton, NC) at 10:51 of the first half. Freshman
Justin Varela (Chesterfield) heaved a long throw in that junior
Connor Brooks (Springfield) headed directly to Purdie who headed in the goal, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Randolph evened the score with a goal in the 20

Michael Ogenyi (Virginia Beach) found sophomore
Jackson Burkhart (Raleigh, NC) on a breakaway, and Burkhart scored the goal after weaving the ball through the open legs of the WildCat goalie.
The Tigers kept the 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Randolph used a pair of goals in the 58
th and 71
st minute to pull ahead, and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes for the 3-2 win.

Ian Fitzgerald (Newport News) made eight saves while playing all 90 minutes.
H-SC returns to action on Saturday, October 9 when it hosts nationally-ranked No. 1 Washington and Lee University. The ODAC action between the Generals and Tigers gets underway at 1 p.m. on Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
