HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers scored the first seven points of the game, but a 13-2 run from Roanoke put the Maroons up 13-9 at 14:25
  • The first half proved to be played with one-two possessions for most of the half, but with the Tigers trailing 35-31 at 6:11, a 13-3 Maroons spurt gave the visitors a 48-34 lead with 2:02 left in the half
  • H-SC scored six of the next eight to find themselves down 50-40 with 40 seconds remaining, but two Cameron Smith free throws gave Roanoke a 52-40 lead going into intermission
  • The lead continued to gradually swell, going up to 17, 65-48, at 16:20, but a 7-0 run over the next two minutes found H-SC only down 10 points.
  • The Maroons answered with a Cameron Smith three pointer on the next possession to spark a 9-2 run to back up 17 points, 74-57, at 10:45
  • The Tigers didn't quit and scored the next 10 points to trail just seven, 74-67, at 8:42, but Roanoke would go on to double their lead to 14 with only 6:25 to play and Hampden-Sydney would trail by at least 10 the rest of the way

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Guilherme Guimaraes (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil / Miller School) scored a career-high 20 points as he made 8 of his 11 field goal attempts and went 4-6 on free throws. He also grabbed six rebounds
  • Andrew Evans (Raleigh, NC / Millbrook) scored 13 and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds
  • Mitch Owens (Williamsburg, VA / Walsingham) contributed 11 points, six boards, and three assists
  • Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) tallied six points, seven rebounds, and six assists. With 405 career assists, he needs just six more to break the H-SC career record of 410.
