Last Second Floater from Zach Desgain Lifts Randolph to 57-55 Win

LYNCHBURG, VA – Zach Desgain's floater with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock lifted Randolph to a 57-55 win over Hampden-Sydney Basketball

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers led for nearly the entire first half and were up 26-23 with 2:46 until halftime, but a Randolph 6-0 run over the last two minutes gave the WildCats a 29-26 advantage at intermission
  • Randolph extended the run to 11-0 to open the second half, going up 34-26 at 17:08.
  • The WildCats extended the lead to nine, 40-31, at 12:13, but a 10-2 spurt from the Tigers saw them trailing just 42-41 with 7:56 to play
  • The H-SC momentum proved to be short lived as Randolph scored the next six points to go out in front 48-41 with 6:46 to play
  • Hampden-Sydney trailed 52-49 with three minutes remaining, but Jacoby Reid drilled a three pointer to keep the Tigers at bay.
  • Guilherme Guimaraes (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil/Miller School) scored on a jumper on the next possession, and Josh Katowitz (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) tallied a putback layup at 1:09 to trim the lead down to 55-53
  • Desgain turned over the ball at 41 seconds, and Mitch Owens (Williamsburg, VA/Walsingham) proceeded to tie the game on a layup with 22 seconds left on the clock
  • Randolph called a timeout, and Desgain got down the middle of the feet and scored on a floater from in close with 0.5 seconds left
  • Mike Murray's (Norfolk, VA/Norfolk Christian) shot at the buzzer hit off the backboard and off the side of the rim

  • Owens scored a team-high 13 points
  • JaVonte Reddick (Richmond, VA/L.C. Bird) tacked on 10 points
  • Nick Chase (Wilmington, NC/Coastal Christian) posted eight points and 3 rebounds
  • Jake Duncan (Williamsburg, VA/Williamsburg Christian) corralled a game-high eight rebounds

FOR THE FOES

  • Jason Eddie shot 5-6 from three for 15 points. He came into the game 6-28 from three for the season
  • Josh Freund scored 12 points to go with five rebounds
  • Desgain contributed nine points and six assists
  • Reid totaled nine points and four assists

  • H-SC outrebounded RC 34-24
