Barrage of Threes From Randolph-Macon Results in 79-65 Loss

ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon drained 14 three-pointers en route to a 79-65 win over Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday night.

H-SC led early at 4-1, but three consecutive triples gave the hosts a 10-4 lead, and they would lead for the remainder of the contest. The Tigers managed to stay within striking distance for much of the game and trailed by just seven, 49-42, with 12:56 after trailing by 10 at the break. From there, the Yellow Jackets provided the next four scoring possessions with two free throws and a trio of treys to surge ahead by 17 with 10:45 to play. The Tigers couldn't draw within more than 12 for the rest of the game.

Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) scored a team-high 18 points while shooting 6-10. Greg Lewis (Mechanicsville, VA / Hanover) posted 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Mike Silverthorn paced Randolph-Macon with 20 points while Marcus Badger recorded eight points, 14 assists, and three steals. Chris Hamilton chipped in 16 points, and Joe Hassell chimed in with a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.

The Tigers were efficient on their shots, making 51% of their total attempts and going 37% on threes, but they gave up the ball 19 times. Randolph-Macon connected on 46% of their field goal attempts and made 48% beyond the arc. They also held a big advantage at the free throw line, making 17-of-23 compared to 6-of-10 for H-SC,

Hampden-Sydney travels to Salem, VA on Saturday to play Roanoke College in a 2 pm game.
