Tigers Take Luck Stone Holiday Tournament Championship

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Basketball took down Albright 69-53 to win the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament Championship. Immaculata defeated William Peace 84-72 in the consolation game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albright got off to a hot start and led 8-0 after three minutes and 16-7 after eight
  • The Tigers reeled off the next ten points to take a 17-16 lead at 7:06
  • The first half was back and forth from there but Albright held a one-point advantage, 23-22, with 2:50 left before intermission
  • Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) and Jake Duncan (Williamsburg, VA / Williamsburg Christian) proceeded to score 11 of the last 13 points of the stanza to put the Tigers ahead 33-25 going into halftime
  • Albright opened the second half scoring seven of the first nine points to draw within three, 35-32, at the 17-minute mark
  • With Albright down 40-38 with 12 minutes to go, the Tigers scored the next 10 to surge ahead 50-38 with 8:16 left on the clock
  • The Lions got within eight, 53-45, at 6:41, but Albright managed just one field goal the rest of the way

TIGER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Duncan was named Tournament MVP. He scored 24 points with four rebounds. He connected on seven of eight three point attempts
  • Murray was named All-Tournament as he posted 18 points with five assists, three rebounds, and three steals. He shot 7-14 overall and 2-5 from three
  • Guilherme Guimaraes (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil / Miller School) was also named All-Tournament as he narrowly missed on a double-double with nine points and eight boards
  • Andrew Evans (Raleigh, NC / Millbrook) totaled nine points, four assists, and three caroms

FOR THE FOES

  • Evan Ward double-doubled with 10 points and 13 rebounds
  • Omari Ringgold had a team-high 15 points

STATS OF THE GAME

  • The Tigers shot 46% overall and drained 11 three pointers while shooting 46% beyond the arc
  • Albright converted on just 30% of their field goals and three pointers
  • The Lions were 18-27 from the foul line compared to 8-15 for the Tigers
