Tiger Seniors Earn Win on Senior Day vs. Washington & Lee

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Basketball honored seniors Fletcher Lumpkin (Richmond, VA / Mills Godwin), Sasha Obradovic (Belgrade, Serbia / Hawaii Prep), Keegan Wetzel (Mebane, NC / Eastern Alamance), and Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA / Maury) prior to the game and defeated Washington & Lee 69-57 on Saturday afternoon.

Washington & Lee came out early looking to spoil Senior Day, opening the game on an 8-0 run, but back-to-back JaVonte Reddick (Richmond, VA / L.C. Bird) three pointers got the Tigers rolling as they used an 16-2 spurt to go up 16-10 at the 12:38 mark. It was a one to two possession game throughout the rest of the half, with the Tigers ahead 29-26 at 3:15.

Strong defense kept the Generals scoreless the rest of the half while six straight points from Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) and a Stephen Vassor (Roanoke Rapids, NC / Brunswick (VA)) free throw gave H-SC a 36-26 halftime lead. Hampden-Sydney pushed the advantage out to 17 less than five minutes in from intermission and led by at least 10 points the rest of the way.

Murray scored a team-high 13 points while Reddick contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Williamson posted 11 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, and Alex Smith (Whitsett, NC / T. Wingate Andrews) totaled seven points and a game-high nine boards.

Andrew Franz paced Washington & Lee with 20 points as he was the lone double-digit scorer.

Hampden-Sydney shot 48% overall, 44% from three (10-23), but just 13-22 at the foul line compared to 37.5%, 19% (4-21), and 17-24 for the Generals. The Tigers dominated the glass 43-20 and allowed just three offensive rebounds but turned over the ball 20 times compared to 12 for W&L.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Ashland, VA on Wednesday for a 7 pm game vs. Randolph-Macon.
