Box Score SALEM, VA (February 26, 2010)—Fourth seeded and 18th ranked RandolphRandolph-Macon got off to a hot start and never looked back downing the fifth seeded Tigers in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament by a score of 84-48. Senior and three-time All-ODAC honoree Turner King (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) paced the Tigers with a game-high 15 points, while being just the fourth player in school history to score 1,800 points. King's career total of 1,801 ranks fourth in school history.
The Yellow Jackets used the first two and a half minutes to burst out to a 14-2 lead and slowly built its lead. King did all he could in his final trip to Salem, scoring seven of the Tigers' first nine points.
Hampden-Sydney struggled shooting the ball going 18-53 (34%) from the floor on the night while Randolph-Macon connected on 34-67 (50.7%) field goals.
The Tigers did see solid late game play from seniors Lane Medlin (West Point, VA/Fork Union), Karlis Trops (Riga, Latvia/Charlotte Latin) and freshmen Randall Ward (Richmond, VA/John Marshall) andAlex Potapov (Moscow, Russia/Florida Air) who combined to score 11 points in just two minutes of play.
On the day, King shot 4-10 from the floor while knocking down all six of his free throw attempts. Sophomore Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) added six points. Potapov notched five points and snared a team-high six rebounds.
Randolph-Macon was led by Danny Jones who netted 14 points on 6-12 shooting.
Hampden-Sydney graduates six seniors in King, Medlin, Trops, Jonathan Mudd (Miami, FL/American), Hakeem Croom (Harlem, NY/Fishburne) and Larry Henshaw (Petersburg, VA/Prince George).
