Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (January 27, 2010)—Hampden-Sydney won its third straight game, and first ever against Randolph, to improve to 9-9 on the season and 5-5 in the ODAC. The Tigers were again led by freshman Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) who scored a game-high 18 points, but senior Lane Medlin (West Point, VA/Fork Union) came to play, scoring a season-high 15 points while going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Medlin and the Tigers got off to a hot start, going up 7-0 in the first two and a half minutes. Randolph settled in and once they got on the scoreboard, they managed to outscore Hampden-Sydney 14-5 over the next five minutes to claim a 14-12 lead with 12:03 to play in the half.

The lead was short lived with Medlin hitting a triple to put the Tigers back on top 15-14. Randolph tied the game on a Derrick Woods-Morrow free throw, but Hampden-Sydney advanced to a 25-18 after a George jumper at the 6:02 mark.

Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) extended the lead to eight with a trey, but Randolph would not go away, and after a Woods-Morrow lay up at the 3:21 mark, the lead was down to 30-27.

The Tigers used the final three and a half minutes to pull away to a 34-28 halftime lead.

The second stanza started just as the first did, with Medlin canning a three to start the scoring. The Tigers rolled with Medlin and used the first four minutes of the half to gain a double digit lead. Hakeem Croom (Harlem, NY/Fishburne Military Academy) hit a three pointer to put his squad up 44-32.

Hampden-Sydney led by as much as 18 at the 10:15 mark, but Randolph slowly chipped away at the lead. A Jimmy Greene lay up cut it to 58-46 at the 6:10 mark, though Hampden-Sydney kept the differential in double digits.

With 3:05 remaining, Colton Hunt hit a jumper to give Randolph its lowest deficit at 64-55, but Jonathan Mudd (Miami, FL/American) slashed to the lane and his lay up put the lead back to double digits.

The teams traded baskets, but Hampden-Sydney was able to clinch the game from the free throw line, advancing with the 75-66 win.
