TIGERS FALL 64-59 TO BRIDGEWATER

BRIDGEWATER, VA (January 16, 2010)—Hampden-Sydney outscored Bridgewater 36-34 in the second half, but could not quite overcome the seven point deficit at halftime, falling 64-59 to the host Eagles. Bridgewater's Dominic Trawick led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while sophomore Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) and freshman Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) paced the Tigers with 17 points.

Trawick started out on fire, scoring the first five points of the game while helping his team to jump out 7-0. Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) ended the run with a triple to put the Tigers within four.

The Eagles, however, pushed the lead to as much as 10 with a 17-7 advantage at the 9:02 mark. Hampden-Sydney responded with a run of its own, led by five points from Jonathan Mudd (Miami, FL/American) and cut the Tiger deficit to 21-16.

A Trawick three pointer put the Eagles up 30-21, but freshman Patrick Corrigan (Richmond, VA/Collegiate) tallied the final score of the half to put the score at 30-23 at intermission.

Jessee started the second half scoring, putting the Tigers within five, but Bridgewater fired right back with a lay up to go back up 32-25.

Bridgewater extended the lead back to 10 with a Jake Johnson lay up; George then made his presence known, scoring the Tigers' next 12 points to bring his team within two, trailing 45-43 with 9:55 remaining.

Bridgewater scored five unanswered before the Tigers returned the favor behind five points from Turner King (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) and Alex Potapov (Moscow, Russia/Florida Air) at the 7:20 mark.

Hampden-Sydney stayed with Bridgewater over the next seven minutes, but just could not tie it up.

Two George free throws again made it a three point game with 38 seconds left, but the next 20 seconds saw the Eagles extend to a 62-56 lead.

Jessee nailed a big three with 11 seconds left to make it a one possession game at 62-59, but Bridgewater was able to finish it off from the foul line.

On the day, Bridgewater was 14-15 from the line was the Tigers were 13-21. The Eagles also edged the Tigers in rebounds 39-37.

Trawick led all scorers with 29 points while adding five rebounds. Segar Jordan scored 13 points, and Jake Johnson added 11. As a team, Bridgewater was 22-57 (38.6%) from the floor and 6-21 (28.6%) from beyond the arc.

Hampden-Sydney was led by George and Jessee who each netted 17 points while George snared a game-high eight rebounds. The Tigers were 20-55 (36.4%) shooting and 6-12 (50%) from three.

Hampden-Sydney, standing at 6-9 and 2-5 in the ODAC, returns to action this Wednesday, January 20 as it travels to Lynchburg, VA to face the Hornets of Lynchburg College. Tip off is set for 7:00 pm.
