Jason Rostan '03 is in his 23rd year at Hampden-Sydney College during 2025-26, and his 10th year as the Head Lacrosse Coach at his alma mater. He was named the new head coach at H-SC on June 3, 2016, becoming just the fourth head coach in the storied program's history. Jason replaced his father, Ray Rostan, who retired at the end of the 2016 season after an incredible 32-year career with the Tigers. Jason is currently 108-46 at the College, ranking second in wins, while his current winning percentage (.701) ranks first. He also serves as a strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department.

H-SC completed 2025 with a final record of 12-6 overall, including 7-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), the program's fifth consecutive and eighth overall season with at least 12 wins under Jason Rostan. The Tigers earned the No. 4 Seed in the ODAC Tournament, falling the quarterfinals. Highlights included an five-game winning streak early and a four-game winning streak late, including an 18-7 home win past Randolph-Macon on Senior Day.
H-SC completed 2024 with a final record of 12-6 overall, including 6-3 in the ODAC. The Tigers earned the No. 4 Seed in the ODAC Tournament, falling the quarterfinals. Highlights included a six-game winning streak that followed an early-season four-game winning streak.
H-SC completed 2023 with a final record of 13-5 overall, including 8-1 in the ODAC. The Tigers earned the No. 2 Seed in the ODAC Tournament, reaching the semifinals. The top highlight of the season came in the four-overtime thrilling, 11-10, victory over nationally-ranked Washington and Lee University on March 29. That victory kicked helped kick off an eight-game win streak by the Tigers, with all games coming against ODAC member schools. As the No. 2 seed in the ODAC Tournament, the Tigers earned themselves a trip to the semifinals which brought a rematch with Washington and Lee, where they fell 16-4.
H-SC completed 2022 with a final record of 13-7 overall, including 6-4 in the ODAC, while advancing to the ODAC Tournament Championship game for the first time since 2017. Highlights included a thrilling 13-12 win over Catholic (DC) at the Capital Classic Lacrosse Tournament on March 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. That victory helped propel the Tigers to win the next five out of six games, including four against ODAC members: Bridgewater (10-6), Ferrum (23-3), Randolph (19-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (24-7). H-SC defeated archrival Randolph-Macon (12-10) in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals, and No. 1 seed Washington and Lee (8-7) in sudden-death overtime in the semifinals at W&L, before falling in the title game to Lynchburg (18-7).
Rostan has led H-SC to three 13-win campaigns that equal the second-best seasons in the program's history. The Tigers have won eight ODAC games three times during a season (2018, 2021, 2023), the most conference wins in a season. In 2018, H-SC finished 13-5 overall, including 8-1 in the ODAC, while advancing to the ODAC Tournament semifinals. In 2019, the Tigers were 13-6 overall, including 7-3 in the ODAC, again advancing to the ODAC Tournament semifinals. H-SC finished 4-2 overall, including 1-0 in the ODAC, during 2020 that cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the Tigers finished 12-3 overall, including 8-1 in the ODAC, while once-again advancing to the ODAC Tournament semifinals.
His first year at the helm of Tiger Lacrosse in 2017 remains one of the best season's in program history to date. H-SC won its fifth ODAC Championship and third NCAA Tournament game, while setting a new record for wins in a season with 16, breaking the previous mark of 13. The team shattered the school record book on the offensive end, setting new records in points with 486 (previously 387), goals with 307 (previously 236), and assists with 179 (previously 177). Coach Rostan was named the Region, State and ODAC Coach of the Year.
Rostan was a four-year standout student-athlete at H-SC, followed by 13 years as an assistant coach, including eight years as the offensive and recruiting coordinator. In 2007, Rostan was an assistant coach for the South in the USILA Division III North-South Game. In 2010 and 2014, Rostan was named a finalist for the Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year.
As a junior in 2002, Rostan earned First-Team All-American honors and was the ODAC Player of the Year. During his senior season, he was named a Second-Team All-American and was selected to play in the North-South game. He was an All-ODAC selection three times, twice on the first team, a two-time team captain, and the 2002 recipient of the team's Howdy Meyers Award. His 2003 senior class graduated as the winningest class in program history after earning three NCAA tournament appearances and a 2001 ODAC Championship.
In the summer of 2005, Rostan was one of 120 players invited to try out for Team USA, one of only a handful of Division III players to be invited. In 2007, Rostan was the Los Angeles Riptide's fifth round pick in the Major League Lacrosse supplemental draft. The following year, Rostan was the Denver Outlaw's fifth-round pick. Rostan was inducted into the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Hall of Fame in October of 2015.
Rostan is a 2003 graduate of Hampden-Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Jason and his wife, Amy, have a daughter, Carter, and a son, Cole and the family resides in Hampden-Sydney.
