MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Senior
Jackson Herndon (Chatham) posted a collegiate-best 6K time of 20:48.5 to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 13th-place finish at the
Spider Alumni Open on Saturday morning at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. Jackson placed 63rd among 136 runners as the Tigers totaled 372 points for 13th among 14 teams, including eight NCAA Division I and two Division II member schools. The College of William and Mary won the team race with its 33 points, while Clinton Kipruto of Norfolk State University was the individual winner with a time of 18:05.5.
Herndon was followed by senior
Dylan Evans (Virginia Beach) (22:45.5, 106th), freshmen
Bennett Hunter (Abingdon) (23:14.5, 117th),
Luke Stevens (Manteo, NC) (23:16.8, 118th) and
Elijah Tritt (King George) (23:49.3, 123rd), along with senior
Jefferson Duffey (Keysville) (25:07.4, 129th). Evans, Hunter, Stevens, Tritt and Duffey each ran a collegiate-best time for the distance, as well.
H-SC will race again at the
NCAA South Regional Preview, an 8K event hosted by the University of Lynchburg on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. at Panorama Farms in Earlysville located near Charlottesville.
