Hampden-Sydney Runs Past Visiting Bridgewater 7-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College won all singles and doubles matches to take a 7-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
 
Senior Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and his partner, junior Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC), were the first match to finish in doubles action, taking a 6-1 win from the top spot. Senior Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and sophomore Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) earned the Tigers the doubles point with a 6-1 win. In the final doubles match to conclude, sophomore Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) and freshman Slade Funderburk (Camden, SC) earned a 6-1 win.
 
Singles action started with four straight 6-0, 6-0 victories for H-SC, with Coffey getting things started from the number four spot, with Fogle following behind at number five, then McReynolds at two and Rice at three rounding out the straight set wins. Funderburk was the next to finish in the sixth slot, taking a 6-1, 6-2 win. Davis was the final match to finish in the top spot, taking a 6-2 first set win, and after dropping the first point in set two, he won the following six to take the match 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, April 9, when they take on Averett University in a match designated non-conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
