HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) earned a three-set win in singles play, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Averett University on Thursday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.

Slade Funderburk (Camden, SC) were the first match to finish in doubles action, with the pair falling 6-2. Senior

Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) were the next pairing to finish, also falling 6-2. The final pairing was Davis and senior
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) in the top doubles slot, where they fell 6-3.
Coffey led off singles action from the #4 singles spot, dropping the first set 6-0 and the second 6-1 to drop the match. Rice was the next match to finish in the third spot, dropping both sets 6-3, while McReynolds in the second slot dropped a close first set 7-5, before dropping the second 6-2 to fall in the match. Funderburk was the next Tiger to finish on the afternoon, dropping both sets 6-4, while Fogle competed in the fifth spot, dropping the first set 6-3, and the second 6-2 to fall in his match. The final match to finish was Davis, who jumped out to an early lead with a commanding 6-1 win in the first set, but was defeated 6-3 in the second set to force a third. In the third set, he cruised to a 6-0 win to take the match 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, April 19, when they travel to take on Virginia State University at 1 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
