Ben Price (Charlotte, NC) took singles victories, while senior
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and sophomore
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) grabbed a doubles victory, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to the University of Lynchburg 5-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday morning.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in doubles action when Coffey and Rice took a 6-3 victory in the second doubles match. Senior
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and junior
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) were the next to finish in the top spot, falling 6-2, while Funderburk and his partner
Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) fell 6-4 in the final doubles match.
H-SC evened the score immediately when Price opened singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win from the sixth singles slot. Fogle was the next to finish in the fourth slot, dropping a close first set 6-4, before dropping the second set 6-0 to drop the match. Rice played a close 6-3 first set in the number three singles, but then fell in the match with a 6-0 second set loss. McReynolds played two close sets, dropping the first 6-4, and the second 6-3 to fall in the match, while Davis fell in a close 6-4 first set before dropping the second set 6-2 to drop the match. Funderburk was the final match to finish, as he fell behind early with a 6-3 loss in the first set, but battled back to even the scores with a 6-3 win in the second set. In the final set, he won the 10-point tiebreaker 10-6 to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 1(10)-0(6).
