GREENSBORO, NC -- Freshmen
Slade Funderburk (Camden, SC) and
Sam Robinson (Charlotte, NC) earned singles and doubles victories to help Hampden-Sydney College take a 6-1 win over Guilford (NC) College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
Doubles action saw all three matches end with a 6-0 score, with FunderBurk and Robinson winning in the third doubles match, and senior
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and sophomore
Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) winning in the second doubles slot to secure the doubles point. Junior
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) and sophomore
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) competed in the top doubles spot and fell 6-0.
Davis kicked off singles action with a win from the top spot, taking the first set 7-5 and the second 6-4 for the match win. Rice cruised to a win in the third singles slot, taking both sets 6-0, while Funderburk in the fifth spot, and freshman
Ben Price (Charlotte, NC) in the number six singles spot also earned 6-0, 6-0 wins. Robinson jumped out to an early lead in his singles match, taking the first set 6-3, before following it up with a dominant 6-1 result in set two to take the match. McReynolds took an early lead in the second singles spot, taking a commanding 6-0 first set win, before falling 7-5 in the second set to force a third set. In the third set, he fell 6-4 to drop the match 6-0, 5-7, 4-6.
The Tigers will be back in action on Monday, March 23, when they hit the road again to take on Southern Virginia University in non-conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Tennis Complex.
