HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College fell to No. 8 Washington and Lee University 3-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
The Generals jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the seventh minute. The Tigers had a couple of good looks to close out the half to try and level the score, but one shot just missed the mark wide, and sophomore
Owen Edwards (Matthews, NC) had his shot saved just before the halftime whistle.
The Generals then doubled their advantage less than a minute after halftime, and added a second just after the 60th minute to take a 3-0 lead. H-SC was unable to break down the Washington and Lee defense the rest of the way, hitting the crossbar once and having a shot saved to keep the score at 3-0 for the Generals.
Washington and Lee had the advantage in both shots (17-10) and shots on target (9-4) on the evening.
Sophomore
Stig Larson (Richmond) made four saves on the evening.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, October 2, when they play host to Shenandoah University in ODAC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field for Tiger Soccer Camp Day.
