HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Senior
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and sophomore
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) both won singles and doubles matches, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Virginia Wesleyan University 4-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Friday afternoon.
In the top doubles slot, Foster and Davis grabbed a 6-4 win. In the second doubles slot, juniors
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) fell 6-3, and freshmen
Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) and
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) fell by the same 6-3 scoreline.
In singles action, Foster took a win in the top singles slot after dropping the first set 7-6 but rebounded in the second set with a 7-5 win. In the third and final set, Foster took an 11-9 win to take the set 1-0 and the overall match 6-7, 7-5, 1(11)-0(9). Davis took his singles victory in the second slot, grabbing a 6-4 win in the first set and a 7(8)-6(6) win in the second set to take the match. Rice took a quick 6-1 win in the first set of the fourth singles slot and followed it up with a 6-3 win the second set to take the victory. McReynolds fell behind in the third singles slot after dropping the first set 6-4, but bounced back with a 6-1 second set win. In the third set, he fell 6-1 to drop the match 4-6, 6-1, 1-6. Henry Singleton (Richmond) fell 6-4, 6-3, and in the sixth slot, Fogle dropped the match 6-3, 6-1.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, March 29, when they take on Shenandoah University in ODAC action. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
