Hampden-Sydney Wins At Home Over Shenandoah 5-2

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior Dillon McReynolds (Abindon) and sophomore Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) earned singles and doubles victories to help lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 5-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.

In doubles action, senior Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and Davis started off with a 6-3 win in the top doubles match. Junior Casey Coffey (Midlothian) McReynolds earned H-SC a point with a 6-4 win in the second doubles match. In the final doubles match, freshmen Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) and Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) fell 6-1.

In singles action, Davis took the win for the Tigers in the second singles match, winning the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-3 to play a third set. In the third set, Davis won 6-2 to take the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. McReynolds in the fourth singles match took a dominant 6-1 first set victory before falling in the second set 6-2. In the final set, he was able to secure a 6-4 win to take his match 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Senior Henry Singleton (Richmond) took a win in the fifth singles slot, starting with a 6-3 win in the first set and followed up by a 7-6 win in the second set to secure the match. In the sixth singles match, senior Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) took an early lead with a 6-3 win in the first set, but fell in set two 6-2 forcing a third set. In the final set, Fox took a 6-3 win to take the match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. In the top match, Foster dropped his first set 6-3 and then dropped the second as well 6-2. In the final match to finish, the third singles slot, Rice dropped his first set 6-1, but bounced back with a 7-6 set two win. In the third and final went to a tiebreaker tied at six all where he fell 8-6 in the tiebreaker to drop the third set 7(8)-6(6).

The Tigers will be back in action when they travel to Bridgewater College for an ODAC matchup with the Eagles on Friday, April 4. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Mapp-Whitelow Courts.
