DANVILLE, Va. -- Senior
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and sophomore
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took singles victories but Hampden-Sydney College dropped its opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match 5-2 to Averett University.
Foster and Davis teamed up in doubles action, competing in the first slot, but fell in a close 6-4 match. Juniors
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) fell 6-1 in the second doubles match and seniors
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and
Henry Singleton (Richmond) fell 6-0 in the final doubles match.
The Tigers took wins in the first and final singles match to finish, starting off with Foster in the top slot, being the first completed, that saw him take a 6-4 first set win and a 6-0 second set win to tie the match at one. The final match to finish was the third slot, which saw Davis take a 6-4, 6-4 win. Following Foster's match, freshman
Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) was the next match to finish, and he took a 6-1, 6-2 loss. McReynolds was the next to finish with a 6-1, 6-4 loss in the second singles slot, and was followed by a 6-2, 6-4 loss in the fifth singles slot by Singleton. Freshman
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) was the Tiger in the fourth singles slot where he fell by a 6-0, 6-4 scoreline.
The Tigers will be back in action when they continue ODAC action on the road at Randolph College on Wednesday, March 26. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. the Randolph Tennis Courts.
