ORLANDO, FL -- Hampden-Sydney College got singles victories from seniors
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and
Henry Singleton (Richmond) but fell in the match 5-2 to Connecticut College Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers took an early win in doubles action, as Foster and his partner, sophomore
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) grabbed a 6-4 result in the top doubles slot. In the second doubles slot, junior
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and freshman
Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) fell 6-4. The final doubles match saw senior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) pair up with freshman
Landon Bivens (Lynchburg) and saw the pair fall 6-2.
Foster grabbed his singles victory from the top slot, after he dropped the first set 6-4, he came back with a dominant 6-0 victory in set two before winning the tiebreaker in set three to win the match 4-6, 6-0, 1-0. Singleton took his singles victory from the fifth slot, winning in straight sets with a set one 7-5 scoreline and set two 6-3 scoreline. Junior
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) was the Tiger in the second singles slot and jumped out to an early lead with a 7-5 win in the first set, but dropped the second set 6-2. In the third set he fell in the tiebreaker to drop the match 7-5, 3-6, 0-1. Davis in the third slot dropped his first set 6-3, but was able to bounce back with a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third and decisive set. In the final set, he fell in a tiebreaker to drop the match 3-6, 6-4, 0-1. Freshman
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) fell in the fourth singles slot, dropping set one 6-4, and set two 6-3. In the final singles match, senior
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) played a close set one but fell 6-4, and fell in the second set 6-0 to lose the match.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 21, when they open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a trip to Averett University. The match will begin at 3 p.m. Averett Tennis Courts in Danville.
