Hampden-Sydney Wins 6-1 Over Ohio Northern

ORLANDO, FL -- Seniors Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach), Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach), and Henry Singleton (Richmond), along with junior Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) took singles and doubles victories to help Hampden-Sydney College claim a 6-1 win over Ohio Northern University Tuesday evening.

McReynolds and his partner, junior Casey Coffey (Midlothian), got the match started with a win in the second doubles slot with a 6-3 scoreline. Right behind them was the pair of Fox and Singleton in the third doubles slot, matching McReynolds and Coffey with a 6-3 win. In the final doubles match to finish, Foster and his partner, sophomore Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) were pushed hard but came out with a 7-5 win.

Davis was the first singles match to finish from the third slot, taking the first set 6-2 before unfortunately dropping the match due to him retiring. Singleton then broke the 1-1 deadlock with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fifth singles slot. Freshman Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) then grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fourth slot to put H-SC one more win away from a match win. Foster then secured the match win with a victory from the top singles slot, taking a commanding 6-0 first set and finishing it up with a 6-4 second set. Fox was the next to finish for H-SC and claimed a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 win. McReynolds was the final match to finish, after dropping the first set 6-1, he battled back to take a 6-2 win in the second set, forcing a third decisive set. In the final set, the match was pushed to a tiebreaker to decide it and McReynolds came out on top with a 7-2 tiebreaker win to take the match 1-6, 6-2, 7(7)-6(2).

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 12, when they take on LaGrange (GA) College at 7 a.m. and the University of Saint Joseph (CT) at 3:30 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
