ORLANDO, FL -- Senior
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and sophomore
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took a doubles win, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to nationally ranked No. 5 Case Western Reserve (OH) University on Tuesday morning.
Foster and Davis took their victory from the first slot with a 6-4 scoreline. Juniors
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) fell in the second doubles slot 6-0, and seniors
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and
Henry Singleton (Richmond) dropped the third slot doubles match 6-3.
Foster kicked off singles action with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat in the top singles slot, while McReynolds fell in the second slot 6-2, 6-1. Davis forced a tiebreaker in the third singles slot in the first set, ultimately falling in the tiebreaker 7-4 and dropped the second set 6-4 to finish the match 7(7)-6(4), 6-4. Freshman
Emerson Rice (Columbia, SC) grabbed a first set win the fourth singles slot 6-4, before dropping the second set 6-4, forcing a third set tiebreaker. The final set was a battle that saw the tiebreaker finish at 13-11 but the result did not go in Rice's favor as he dropped the match 6-4, 4-6, 0(11)-1(13). Fox went into a tiebreaker in set one of the fifth singles match but he fell in the tiebreaker 7-3, and he dropped the second set 7-5 to drop the match 7(7)-6(3), 7-5. Jonathan Fogle (Midlothian) fell 6-1-6-3.
The Tigers will be back in action later today, March 11, when they play Ohio Northern University at 6 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
