HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 10 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at Washington and Lee University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night, January 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Lexington. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 11-3 overall, 5-1 in the ODAC, following a 75-68 conference home win past Bridgewater College on Jan. 10 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The Generals are 3-10 overall, 1-3 in the ODAC, after a 72-45 conference home loss to then No. 18 Randolph-Macon College on Jan. 11 in Lexington. The midweek game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM—pregame at approximately 7 p.m. following a W&L women's basketball contest at 5 p.m., and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch at W&L All-Access.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee. Kimbrough is 94-41 at the College, ranking in a tie for sixth in program coaching wins (Bubba Smith, 2003-08), while his current winning percentage (.696) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 21.0 points (29 3FGs, 87% FTs), 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 12.3 points (55% FGs), 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.1 points (27 3FGs-44%). Other top contributors include junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (8.2 points, 15 3FGs, 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists), freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds), senior guards Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.2 points, 5.8 rebounds) and Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (5.7 points, 15 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.3 points, 75% FGs). H-SC shoots 47% (404-862) from the field, including 33% (105-323) on three-point field goals, and 72% (218-303) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.8 points, and yielding 71.0 points, for a +9.8 scoring margin.

Scouting Washington and Lee
W&L is coached by eighth-year head coach Chris McHugh and has been led by trio of freshman forward Connor Amorosi (15.0 points, 5.9 rebounds), junior guard/forward A.J. Thomas (11.3 points) and junior forward Colin Ryan (10.2 points, 7.6 rebounds). The Generals shoot 38% (294-785) from the field, including 29% (101-344) on three-pointers, and 67% (162-241) at the line. W&L is scoring 65.5 points, and yielding 77.1 points, for a -11.6 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC
leads the all-time series against W&L, 82-56. The Tigers have won two-straight and three of four versus the Generals, including an 81-56 victory in the 2024 ODAC Tournament Championship last February 25 at the Salem Civic Center. Adam Brazil led the Garnet & Grey with his game-high 27 points, including five three-pointers, adding five rebounds and two assists while earning Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. H-SC had also won 72-67 last Jan. 6 in Fleet Gym with Brazil also leading the way in that game with 17 points. W&L, however, has won the last seven games played in Lexington, including 96-86 in the most recent on Feb. 18, 2023. The Tigers last win in Lexington was nearly 12 years ago on Feb. 2, 2013 (77-67).

Adam Brazil
has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 21.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 48% (100-207) from the field, including 34% (29-86) on three-pointers, and 87% (65-75) at the line. He has 12 double-figure scoring games, including three 30-point games among eight 20-point games, and scored a season and career-high 34 points vs. Randolph-Macon (11/13).

Shane Fernald
has began this season as he finished last season ... playing at a high level ... averaging 12.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 55% (62-113) from the field. He has 10 double-figure scoring games, including one 20-point game—a season and career-high 21 points vs. Roanoke (12/4).

Impact Transfers
Colin Radcliffe
and Hamilton Campbell have been impact transfers to the program. Colin transferred from Division II Mount Olive (NC) and is averaging 10.1 points and 2.1 rebounds, while shooting 46% (46-100) from the field, including 44% (27-61) on three-pointers, and 79% (22-28) at the line. He scored a season and career-high 27 points at Swarthmore (PA) (11/9). Hamilton transferred from DII Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) and is averaging 8.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 36% (39-109) from the field, including 27% (15-55) on three-pointers, and 82% (22-27) at the line. He scored a season and career-high 22 points vs. Eastern (PA) (12/21).

Adam Brazil
is 13th in program history with 1,352 career points in 107 career games. He adds 332 career assists (10th all-time), 129 career steals and 219 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two, 9th in week three, 7th in week four and eighth in week five, earned 359 points in this week's rankings. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville (13-1) is first this week with 620 points, including 21 first-place votes.

ranks 16th nationally in assist/turnover ratio (1.52), 27th in fewest turnovers per game (10.4), 32nd in winning percentage (78.6) and 47th in field goal percentage (46.9). Adam Brazil ranks 29th nationally in points (294), 43rd in scoring (21.0), 44th in free throws (65) and 49th in field goals (100).

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 507 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,528 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Jan. 13, Turner was 304-182 at UCI (15-2 this season) ... Odom was 195-115 overall, including 36-18 at VCU (12-4  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 122-92 at Longwood (13-6 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
