HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va -- Juniors
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) took a doubles win together but Hampden-Sydney College took a 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) loss to Averett University, Saturday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
Junior
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) were the first pair to finish in the second doubles match falling 8-2. Singleton and Kendrick were the next to finish in the third doubles match, taking an 8-6 victory. The final doubles match to finish was the top match featuring sophomores
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and they were just defeated in a tight 8-7 match to go into singles down 2-1.
After being the last to finish in doubles, Coffey was the first to finish in the fifth singles match dropping both sets by a 6-1 scoreline. Davis was next to finish in the fourth slot, dropping the first set 6-1 and the second set 6-2. Kendrick played a close first set falling by a tight 6-4 scoreline before dropping the second set 6-3 to fall in the match. Singleton dropped the first set of his match in the third singles slot 6-1 but battled to take an early lead in set two before being defeated 6-3. Fox battled in both of his sets in the second singles match, dropping both the first and second sets 6-3. The final singles match to finish was the top match featuring McReynolds who took a 6-4 win in the first set before dropping set two 6-2 to force a third set. In the final set, it was a close battle but he was defeated 10-8 to drop the match.
