LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and freshman Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took a doubles victory but Hampden-Sydney College brought its season to a close with a 5-1 loss to top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 25 Washington and Lee University in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals, Tuesday afternoon.

The top doubles match was the first to finish, as sophomores Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and Casey Coffey (Midlothian) fell 8-2. Juniors Henry Singleton (Richmond) and Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) were the next to finish in the third doubles slot, playing an incredibly tight match that had to be decided with a tiebreaking last point. In the tiebreaker, the pair was defeated 7-5 to drop the match 8(7)-7(5). Fox and Davis also went to a tiebreaking point in their match in the second doubles slot, taking full control of the tiebreaker winning it 7-3 to take the match 8(7)-7(3).

In singles action, McReynolds was beaten in the top singles match 6-0, 6-0. Coffey played a close first set but dropped it 6-4 and then fell in the second set 6-1. In the final singles match to finish, Kendrick dropped a close 6-4 first set before falling in set two 6-1. The singles matches for Fox, Singleton, and Davis were unfinished as the Generals had secured the five points needed to win the match.

The loss brings the season to a close for H-SC, but it will return all members for next season.
