Hampden-Sydney Falls On The Road To No. 25 Washington and Lee 8-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and freshman Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took a doubles win but Hampden-Sydney College fell in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play to No. 25 Washington and Lee University 8-1, Friday evening at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The first double match to finish was the third doubles featuring junior Henry Singleton (Richmond) and sophomore Tanner Allison (Midlothian) with the pair falling after retiring from the match down 6-3. Next to finish was the top doubles pair of sophomores Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and Casey Coffey (Midlothian) falling 8-5. In the final doubles match to finish, Fox and Davis battled to an 8-6 victory to cut the deficit to 2-1 going into singles action.

McReynolds was the first to finish in the top singles match, falling 6-0, 6-0. Next to finish was junior Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) in the sixth singles match, dropping the first match 6-2, and the second match 6-1. Coffey followed up Kendrick in the fifth singles match, as he dropped the first match 6-1, but played a lot closer match in set two but ultimately fell 6-4. Singleton was next to finish in the third singles slot, falling in the first set 6-2, and falling in set 2 6-0 to drop the match. Fox dropped the first set of the second singles match 6-1 before falling in the second set of the match 6-2. Davis was the final match to finish in the fourth singles slot, as he fell behind after dropping the first set 6-3, but battled back to force a third set with a 6-3 win in set two. In the third set, he was beaten 1(10)-0(5) to drop the match 3-6, 6-3, 0(5)-1(10).

The Tigers will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 27, when they host Averett University in ODAC action. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
