Hampden-Sydney Earns 8-1 Win Over Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- Juniors Henry Singleton (Richmond) and Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) along with freshman Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took singles and doubles victories as Hampden-Sydney College took an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph-Macon College, Sunday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center.

Davis and Fox teamed up for the second doubles match cruising to an 8-0 win. Singleton and sophomore Tanner Allison (Midlothian) followed up the 8-0 in the second doubles match with an 8-0 win in the third doubles match. The top doubles match was much closer than the others, as sophomores Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and Casey Coffey (Midlothian) fell 8-5, but H-SC took a 2-1 lead into singles action.

In the top singles match, McReynolds battled to win the first set 7-6 before falling 6-1 in set two to play a third set. In the third set, he won the set 10-2 to seal a 7-6, 1-6, 10-2 victory in the match. Fox cruised to victory in the second singles match, winning the first set 6-1, before taking a 6-2 win in set two. Singleton took a 6-2 win in the first set of the third singles match but dropped the second set in a close 7-5 scoreline to play a decisive third set. In the third set, he took a 10-8 win to secure his match and take a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 win. Davis had a clean sweep in the fourth singles match, winning the first and second sets 6-0. Junior Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) took victory in the fifth singles match, winning the first and second sets 6-1. In the final singles match, sophomore John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) took a 6-4 win in the first set and secured victory in his match with a 6-1 in the second set.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 26, when they travel to take on reigning ODAC champions Washington and Lee in conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
