HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College grabbed victory in all nine matches to take a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Roanoke College, Saturday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
Sophomores
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) paired up in the top doubles match, taking an 8-5 win. Junior
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) cruised to an 8-0 win in the second doubles match. In the final doubles match, junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and sophomore
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) took an 8-1 to give H-SC a 3-0 lead going into singles action.
In the top singles match, McReynolds took the first set 6-4 and battled in the second set to take a 7-6 win. Fox played a close first set in the second doubles match, taking the set 7-5 before taking a more comfortable 6-2 win in set two. Junior
Henry Singleton (Richmond) jumped out to an early lead with a 6-1 victory in set one and took a 6-4 win in set two to take the match. Davis cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the fourth singles match and Coffey cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the fifth singles match. In the final singles match, Kendrick fell behind after set one with a 6-3 loss, but bounced back to take a commanding 6-0 win in set two forcing a third set. In the third set, Kendrick won the set 10-7 to take the set 1-0 and secure the match victory.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, April 14, when they travel to Randolph-Macon College for an ODAC match. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at the Banks Tennis Center
