Hampden-Sydney Falls 8-1 To Virginia Wesleyan

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and freshman Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) grabbed a doubles win together but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Virginia Wesleyan University 8-1, Sunday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.

Sophomores John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) and Tanner Allison (Midlothian) were the first doubles match to finish, falling 8-1 in the third slot. In the top doubles match, sophomore Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and fellow classmate Casey Coffey (Midlothian) also fell by an 8-4 scoreline. In the final doubles match to finish, Davis and Kendrick took an 8-4 win to make the match 2-1 going into single action.

McReynolds was the first to finish in singles action, falling 6-0, 6-0 with Allison finishing next, dropping his match 6-0, 6-4. Glassner took a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the sixth singles slot, and Coffey battled to a 6-4, 6-4 defeat in the third singles. Kendrick dropped the first set of the fourth singles match 6-1, but battled in set two before ultimately being beaten 6-4. In the final singles match to finish, Davis was beaten 6-2 in the first set and dropped the second set 6-3 to drop the match.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 29 when they travel to the University of Lynchburg for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Lynchburg Tennis Courts.
