HAMPDEN-SYNDEY, Va. -- Sophomores 
Matthew Arnold (Danville) and 
Jack Wilson (Petersburg) each collected three hits on the day, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped both games of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) home baseball doubleheader to Roanoke College on Sunday afternoon on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Sophomore 
Jake Williams (Chesapeake) took the pitching setback in the 5-3 opener, while freshman 
Adam Emhoff (Chesapeake) took the mound loss in the 8-1 nightcap for the host Tigers (7-12, 1-8 ODAC) against the visiting Maroons (10-11, 6-1 ODAC).
In game one, H-SC scored three runs on six hits with one error … scoring one run in the seventh inning and two runs in the ninth. RC scored five runs on eight hits with no errors … scoring four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth.
In the seventh, Arnold (2-4) singled to center field as the leadoff batter and advanced to second base when junior team captain 
Christian Lancaster (Danville) (1-3) followed with a single to right field. Arnold moved to third when senior 
Tillman Butler (Culpeper) reached base on a fielder's choice while attempting to provide a sacrifice bunt. Freshman 
Jake Moore (Dry Fork) (1-3, RBI) followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to center field that allowed Arnold to score, making it 5-1.
In the ninth, Arnold once-again single to center field while leading off but was out at second base when Lancaster reached on a fielder's choice. Butler followed with a walk, moving Lancaster to second, and Moore singled to right field to load the bases with one out. Sophomore 
Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (RBI) was hit by a pitch, while pinch-hitting, to move Lancaster across the plate, and junior 
Christian Chambers (Midlothian) (RBI), also pinch-hitting, followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to right field that scored Butler to provide for the final two-run margin.
Williams (0-1) started on the mound for the Tigers and pitched the first 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, with five strikeouts and one walk. Junior 
Gavin Gregory (Suffolk) tossed the final 5.1 innings in relief, scattering three hits and one run, earned, with four strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, H-SC scored one run on five hits with no errors … scoring the one run in the fourth inning. RC scored eight runs on nine hits with no errors … scoring seven runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth.
In the fourth, Lancaster and Farr, who was pinch-hitting again, each drew walks to open the at-bat. Following a pair of fly-ball outs, freshman 
Jase Howell (Portsmouth) (1-2, RBI) singled to left field to score Lancaster to make it 8-1.
Wilson (2-4) had two hits, including a double, while junior 
Grayson Harris (Moseley) (1-5) added a double, as well.
Emhoff (2-2) started on the mound for the Tigers and pitched the first 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and five runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore 
Jackson Barnett (Ashland) recorded one out, yielding two hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and one walk. Junior 
Justin Reynolds (Virginia Beach) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks. Sophomore 
Sterling Austin (Petersburg) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, yielding two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Classmate 
Alex Fitz-Hugh (Chesterfield) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Freshman 
Alex Caruso (Appomattox) tossed a scoreless inning, yielding one hit with no strikeouts and no walks. Freshman 
Ty Herndon (Richmond) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no hits with one strikeout and one walk.
H-SC remains at home to welcome ODAC opponent and nationally-ranked No. 21 University of Lynchburg on Wednesday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.
