HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College won all six of its singles matches to secure an 8-1 victory over Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, Friday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
In the top doubles match, sophomores
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) cruised to an 8-1 win to open the match. Sophomore
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) and sophomore
John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) were the last to finish in the third doubles slot but grabbed a tight 8-6 win. The final doubles match to finish was the pair of junior
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC), who fell 8-3 in the second doubles match.
McReynolds was the first singles match to finish as he took a 6-0, 6-1 win in the top singles match. Davis followed McReynolds up in the second singles slot with a win, taking the first set 6-2, and closing it out with a 6-4 second set win. Junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) secured the team win in the fourth singles slot, as his 7-6, 6-1 win earned H-SC the victory with three more matches to finish. Next to finish was Glassner in the sixth singles slot, taking the first set 6-2 before losing the second set 7-5 to force a third. In the third set, Glassner won 7-6 to take the overall match 6-2, 5-7, 7-6. Coffey jumped out to a lead in the third singles match, taking the first set 7-6. In set two he was beaten 6-1 to force a set three which he took on tiebreakers 11-9 to win the match. In the final match to finish, Allison grabbed a 6-2 win in set one but dropped set two 6-3. In the third set, Allison fell behind early but got the set to tiebreakers and never looked back, taking the final set 7-6 to win the match.
The Tigers will stay at home this Sunday, March 24, when they host Virginia Wesleyan University in a match that is designated non-conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
