ASHLAND, Va. --
Junior team captain Christian Lancaster (Danville) had two hits and two RBIs, while freshman Jase Howell (Portsmouth) and junior Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) each had two hits and one RBI, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 22-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision on the road at (RV) Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland. Junior Justin Reynolds (Virginia Beach) took the pitching setback for the visiting Tigers (6-10, 1-6), who led 5-1 in the fifth inning against the host Yellow Jackets (10-5, 4-1), who scored 21 combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

H-SC scored five runs on 12 hits with three errors … scoring one run in the third inning, and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. RMC, receiving votes in this week's D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25, scored 22 runs on 20 hits with one error … scoring one run in the first inning, nine runs in the fifth, and 12 runs in the sixth inning.

In the third, Howell (2-3, RBI) reached on an infield single to third base to lead off, advanced to second on a one-out single through the right side by junior Grayson Harris (Moseley) (2-4), and scored on an RBI single to center field off the bat of Masterson (2-4, RBI) to tie it at 1-1.

In the fourth, Lancaster (2-4, 2 RBIs) led off with a double to left field, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by senior Tillman Butler (Culpeper), and crossed the plate when freshman Jake Moore (Dry Fork) (1-4, RBI) singled up the middle with one out. Moore stole second and scored courtesy of a two-out double down the left field line by Howell for a 3-1 advantage.

In the fifth, Harris singled to center field while leading off, advanced to second base on a single through the left side by Masterson, and both runners moved up on a ground ball out off the bat of sophomore Matthew Arnold (Danville). Harris and Masterson each scored when Lancaster provided a two-run single to center with one out to increase the lead to 5-1.

Sophomore Jacob Miller-Bopp (Barhamsville) started on the mound for the Tigers and pitched the first four-plus innings, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and two walks. Reynolds (1-2) followed with two-thirds of an inning, yielding four hits and three runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Sterling Austin (Petersburg) recorded one out, but allowed one hit and one run, earned, with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Logan Benton (North Chesterfield) faced three batters and allowed two hits and one run, earned, with no strikeouts and one walk. Senior Jack Bourdon (Madison) pitched two-thirds of an inning, as well, yielding one hit and five runs, one earned, with two strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Colton Harris (Stuarts Draft) faced six batters and allowed five hits and four runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and no walks. Junior Dylan Robbins (Mechanicsville) recorded one out, allowing no hits and no runs with no strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore Hunter Powell (Ridgeway) tossed a scoreless inning, yielding two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Alex Caruso (Appomattox) also tossed a scoreless inning, allowing no hits with one strikeout and one walk.

H-SC returns home (tomorrow) to welcome non-conference opponent Mary Baldwin University on Thursday, March 21, at 3:30 p.m. on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.
