Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) scored a career-high four goals and added an assist and senior
Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) had three assists along with one goal, but it was not enough, as Hampden-Sydney College fell 10-9 in overtime to St. Mary's College of Maryland, Saturday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

The Tigers wasted no time getting the scoring started in the first quarter, as less than a minute into the game, junior
Campion White (Apex, NC) made a short pass to his right to Hanes to crank back and fire a left-handed shot from distance past the goalie. H-SC doubled its lead less than a minute later as senior
Michael Leone (Vienna) found O'Brien on the right wing and after a hesitation move beat his man and calmly finished the bounce shot. The Seahawks responded, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes of action.
After the Seahawks opened the scoring in the second quarter, H-SC answered on the man-up advantage as O'Brien found Leone open on the left side of the crease and made a no-look pass to find his teammate for the finish. After a goal from the Seahawks, the Tigers answered with 15 seconds left on the clock as Hanes got the pass from O'Brien and fired home the shot from up top to cut the lead to 7-4.
The Tigers got the scoring started in the second half as White passed the ball from behind the net to Hanes who was open up top to make a move past a defender and rifle a shot past the goalie. H-SC made it two unanswered the cut the lead to one as junior
Gaines Weis (Richmond) picked up a caused turnover by senior
Thomas Harry (Charlottesville) and took it down the field, making a pass to Leone who found O'Brien to give the ball back to Weis for the finish. H-SC held the Seahawks scoreless in the third quarter to make it 7-6 with 15 minutes left to go.

Patrick Saunders (Alexandria) picked up a ground ball off a deflected pass and wrapped from the left side of the net, around the back, and around the right side of the net before getting in front of the goal to bounce home the goal and make it a one-goal game again. After the Seahawks answered, the Tigers responded with just over three minutes to go as senior
Ford Burke (Richmond) found a cutting sophomore
Davis Mack (Henrico) in front of the net for the finish to get the game to 9-8 in favor of St. Mary's. With 25 seconds left in regulation, Hanes got his shot block, picked up the loose ball, sprinted down the left wing, and fired a shot passed the goalie to tie the game at nine and send it to overtime.
In overtime, both teams had opportunities to score but with 49 seconds in the first overtime, the Seahawks found the back of the net to win 10-9.
Hanes led the Tigers with four goals and one assist, with O'Brien tallying four points on one goal and three assists. Weis, Mack, Leone, and Saunders each found the back of the net once. The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, February 10, when they play host to Ohio Northern University in non-conference action. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
