Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon)Â took a doubles win, while junior
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach), and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC), but it was not enough as Hampden-Sydney College fell to Piedmont (GA) University 6-3 on Thursday morning.
In the top doubles match, Coffey and his partner McReynolds won on a tiebreaker, winning the tiebreaker 7-4 to win the match 8-7. Fox and his partner Davis were defeated 8-5 in the second doubles match. In the final doubles match, junior
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and his partner sophomore
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) fell 8-5, bringing the scores to 2-1 going into singles matches.
Fox grabbed victory in the third singles match, taking the first set 6-3, before losing the second set 6-1. In the final set, he took a 10-7 victory to win the match 6-3, 1-6, 1(10-0(7). In the fifth singles match, Davis cruised to a 6-1 victory in set one, before taking the second set 6-3 to take victory. In the top singles match, McReynolds was beaten 6-0, 6-2. Singleton was beaten in the second doubles match, falling in the first set 6-3, forcing a tiebreaker in set two, losing 7-3 in the tiebreaker to drop the set 7-6. Coffey was defeated in the fourth singles match, dropping the first set 6-3, and losing the second set 6-1. In the final singles match, junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) fell in the first set 6-2, before falling in set two 6-3.
The Tigers will be back in action later today when they play their final match over spring break against Hamilton (NY) College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
