Hampden-Sydney Closes Spring Break Trip With 7-2 Loss To Hamilton (NY)

ORLANDO, Fl. -- Freshman Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took wins in both doubles and singles action, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Hamilton (NY) College 7-2 Thursday night.

Davis and his partner junior Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) took a win in doubles action, taking the match 8-3. In the top doubles match, sophomores Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and Casey Coffey (Midlothian) fell 8-4. In the final doubles match, juniors Henry Singleton (Richmond) and Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) lost the match 8-3, as H-SC trailed 2-1 going into singles action.

Davis took his singles victory in the fourth singles slot, dropping the first set 6-4, before rallying back to take set two 6-1 and force a third set. Davis took a 6-4 victory in the third set to take the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Singleton fell in the top singles match, dropping the first set 6-2, and falling in the second set 6-1. McReynolds dropped the first set of the second singles slot 6-0 and was defeated in the second set 6-2. In the third singles match, Fox dropped the first set 6-2, but took a 6-4 win in set two to force a decisive set three. In set three, Fox was defeated, losing the set 6-3 to drop the match 2-6, 6-4, 3-6. Kendrick jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 6-3, but was pushed to a third set after dropping set two 6-1. In the third set, Kendrick was defeated 6-2 to drop the match 6-3, 1-6, 2-6. In the final singles match, sophomore John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) fell behind early, losing the first set 6-1, but taking set two 6-4 to force a third set. In the third set, he lost 6-3 to drop the match 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 22, for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match against Bridgewater College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
