ORLANDO, Fl. -- Hampden-Sydney College earned a clean sweep 9-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University, Tuesday night. Juniors
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach), sophomores
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian), and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) all earned singles and doubles victories.
In top doubles action, the partnership of McReynolds and Coffey took an 8-6 win to open the night. Fox and Davis also grabbed a win in the second doubles match, winning by an 8-6 scoreline. In the final doubles match, Singleton and his partner sophomore
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) grabbed an 8-6 victory.
McReynolds played in the top singles match, taking the first set 6-1, but dropping the second set 6-4 to play a third set. In the third set, he took a 10-7 victory to win the match. Coffey took a much more comfortable victory in the second singles match, taking the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-1. Singleton took victory in the third singles slot, winning the first and second sets 6-2. Fox took a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the fourth singles slot, and Davis grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the fifth singles match. Junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) took victory in the final singles match, taking the first set 6-2, and grabbing a 6-0 win in set two.
The Tigers will be back in action for two matches on Thursday, March 14, starting with Piedmont (GA) University at 7:30 a.m. and finishing with Hamilton (NY) College at 7 p.m., all in Orlando, Florida.
