Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) both took singles and doubles victories, but Hampden-Sydney College fell 5-4 to the University of Wisconsin at Superior, Tuesday morning.
In the first doubles match, sophomores
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) took an 8-5 win. Fox and Davis were partnered together in the second doubles slot, and also took an 8-5 win. Junior
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and sophomore
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) went all the way to tiebreakers in the third doubles match, losing the tiebreaker 7-5 to drop the match 8-7, but the Tigers held a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
Fox won his singles match from the fourth slot, winning the first set 6-4 and taking the second set 7-5. Davis won his singles match from the fifth slot, taking a 7-5 victory in set one and winning the second set on tiebreakers 7(7)-6(2). In the top singles match, McReynolds was beaten 6-3, 6-3. In the second slot, Coffey took a 6-3, 6-0 loss. Singleton fell behind early in the third singles slot, dropping the first set 6-2, before rallying to win set to 7-6 and force a third set. In the third set, he was beaten 1(10)-0(4) to drop the match. In the final singles match, junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) also fell behind early, losing the first set 6-2, before taking a dominant 6-0 win in set two. In set three, Kendrick was defeated by a 1(10)-0(3) scoreline.
The Tigers will be back in action later today, when they take on Illinois Wesleyan University at 6 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
